With a wide and varied programme of study and research, outstanding facilities combined with a superb sea-front location Swansea University can offer its students unrivalled opportunities.
At Swansea we have created a stimulating and supportive environment. Through learning, our students are encouraged to grow and mature in a self-contained and compact campus with a friendly
community atmosphere.
Swansea University is well respected internationally and is research-led, which means that the latest thinking, up to date knowledge and advances feed into teaching, provide exciting challenges in
postgraduate study, enable staff to continue to explore their specialist subjects and, through links with business and industry, help to develop the Welsh economy.
Ninety two per cent of our academic staff is active in research and the quality of work is reflected in the latest Research Assessment Exercise with nearly a third of areas graded the top 5 or 5*.
Research in the engineering disciplines is of the highest standard as it is across the physical sciences and languages.

Department of Computer Science, University of Wales Swansea
Computer Science is about data, algorithms, programs and computers. It is a young subject and is rich in applications, since computing systems are
everywhere: in science and engineering, medicine, design and manufacture, commerce and public service, defence, transportation, arts and the media, and the home. Information processing
technology allows
many people to use computing systems to create,
store and communicate written, aural and visual information.
Today, Computer Science is the discipline that underlies and leads the long tradition of mechanisation in our world. The influence and achievements of Computer Science are destined to grow for
decades. An education in Computer Science will provide you with the competence to participate in a long revolution. The knowledge will enable you to understand and foresee the great changes and
challenges that Computer Science presents to the world, now and in the future.

IT Wales
IT Wales is the programme through which the Department of Computer Science pursues its third mission activities. The programme was first set up in 1993 to place computing students in high quality

University and the wider community. It has since expanded into:

-
The extension of the placement programme working with Computer Science at Cardiff and Aberystwyth Universities, UWIC, Trinity College and Swansea Institute of Higher Education.
