Technocamps Brochure (English) – PDF

Over recent years there has been a significant drop in the number of young people that go on to study STEM subjects (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) at all levels. This is not just a Welsh problem, or a UK problem this is happening internationally. While many may ask so what?, the decline is significant as computing, dubbed as the silent C in STEM, has become fundamental to 21st Century living.

Technocamps has been designed to nurture and inspire future generations of highly skilled young people, who will not only develop and supply our ongoing science and technology needs but could also make Wales a world leader in the development of new and advanced technologies. Girls are under-represented within the technology sector, so Technocamps will seek to address this problem by delivering sessions specifically targeted at the needs and wants of girls. The project will also work with young people who have been categorised as NEET (Not in Employment, Education or Training) as well as those that are at risk of falling into that category.

The work of Technocamps will support and enhance the STEM subjects taught in schools and colleges. The project does not take the place of teachers, but will support them via workshops and events designed for STEM teachers, and by providing them with supplementary materials that can be used in their teaching. Workshops will be held at Swansea University and at each of our partner universities, Aberystwyth, Glamorgan and Bangor.

Once the workshops are over, teachers will be given all the Resources they need to establish and run a Technoclub within their school or college to further inspire the young people and encourage them to work together.

Teachers know the curriculum better than anyone and have a strong understanding of the needs and requirements of the young people in their class. Let Technocamps help inspire the passion and creativity within them.
