Technocamps Summer of STEM

Published on 03 July 2020

Anyone who has ever participated in one of our workshops knows that Technocamps Delivery Officers have a knack of turning complicated science and technology into fun and interesting activities in the classroom.

This year we have decided to use all our skills and experiences to do something a bit different and really exciting over the summer holidays. Like everyone else, we haven’t been out properly for a while, so we’ve had lots of time and space to come up with more silly but brilliant ideas that are sure to keep you entertained and interested!

Covid-19 may have stopped us holding summer schools in our regional hubs but hasn’t stopped us going virtual and taking our inspiration online!

This year we will be hosting “Summer of STEM”, open to anyone between the ages of 9 and 16.

Starting in August, we will be going ‘live’ for 15 days, with activities and experiments to try out at home.

Our live streams are absolutely FREE, and we will be doing something different every day.

If you join us, you will get the chance to meet new members of the Technocamps team and to work with scientists from all over Wales.

We have some great stuff planned…all with a technology focus of course.

Sign Up Here

Everyone who signs up will receive a welcome pack with freebies through the post and a special SCIENCE pack after they have attended their first session.

Parents aren’t required to purchase any expensive equipment to join in. You just need access to an internet device along with other everyday things that are probably already lying around the house.

Each day is stand-alone so there is flexibility providing a pick and mix option from a ‘menu’ of different sessions. This will include things like:

  1. Musical Materials: Learn more about the world of sound by experimenting with the materials you find around you.
  2. How to be a Winner: Don’t you just hate it when you lose when playing simple games? There are actually strategies out there that can help you win every time!
  3. Machines Takeover: Did you know that there are devices in your home that can think for themselves?

As an additional incentive, anyone who attends 8 days, or more will get the chance to solve a puzzle to win a Technocamps goodie bag! They will also be entered into the prize draw to win one of ten Raspberry Pi’s or Amazon vouchers.

The link above will take you to the sign-up page and once we have received all the registration details, we will invite you to join the Technocamps Summer of STEM space on our website.

Please remember that anyone under the age of 13 will need to check with a parent and obtain consent before completing the registration process.

We are looking forward to meeting you at Summer of STEM!
