Computing Workshops and Kits for Primary Schools
We are now offering free LEGO Spike Prime kits and workshops to primary schools in Blaenau Gwent to support the development of their new curriculum!
Our new project, in partnership with with Cardiff Metropolitan University through our Community Renewal Funding, is offering primary schools in Blaenau Gwent on opportunity to book three Computer Science workshops throughout the term for Year 5 and 6 classes. We will also provide LEGO Spike Prime kits to the classes and free CPD sessions to the teachers to support the teaching of the new curriculum.
The workshops will take place in the Spring term and cover three topics:
- Unplugged Computational Thinking
In this workshop, pupils will learn the 4 strands of Computational Thinking through fun and engaging activities and why they play an important part in everyday life, through fun and engaging activities.

The White Feather
Learn all about World War I and try out different methods for writing and breaking coded messages, and use these skills to defuse a virtual bomb.
Modelling Zombies and Other Diseases
Have you ever wondered what would happen if a Zombie virus began spreading across the nation? Is it possible to stop the spread, how would you predict how many people might get infected and what measures could you put in place to slow the spread? As part of this workshop, pupils will learn about the concept of disease modelling through a variety of fun activities and explore their links to the on-going global pandemic cause by COVID-19.
The Butterfly Hunter
Learn all about Alfred Wallace and Machine Learning in this workshop which was developed to accompany Theatr na nÓg’s play “The Butterfly Hunter”.
An introduction to Lego Robotics programming. Projects can be adapted for KS3 & KS4, project based and to your requirements.
