When Covid-19 began to impact education here in Wales, no-one could have forecast that our schools would still be closed to all but a few children over 3 months later.  At Technocamps we are thankful that things are starting to look more positive, with schools preparing to welcome pupils back over the next few weeks.  it is still, however, quite a strange working environment for anyone in the education sector, as we continue to get used to a new, and very different ‘normal’.

The team is always keen to offer support and assistance to help teachers in their delivery of Computer Science in Schools.

Over the last few months, we have had a chance to focus our efforts on providing online resources to help support STEM delivery in schools.

We have been listening to teachers in Wales.  In response, we have developed a substantial suite of short online CPD sessions for primary school teachers.  These have been well received with excellent feedback from all attendees.   We are pleased that over 80 teachers have already attended our sessions, with more to come over the next few weeks.

This week we are trying something a little bit different with the focus on secondary school teachers delivering ICT and Computer Science at Key Stages 3 and 4.

Technocamps ‘TeachMeet’will bring together teachers from all over Wales for an afternoon of talks, discussion, and learning, involving educators across the UK.

We have some excellent pre-recorded talks lined up –  including a fantastic presentation from our keynote speaker Matthew Hewlett.  Matthew’s talk will focus on how we need to ‘be brave’ in our approach to delivering Computer Science, especially in the light of planned changes to the curriculum in Wales.  All our speakers are teaching professionals who will bring knowledge and experience in a range of different topics.   Each talk will be followed by a question and answer session.

Attendees will have the opportunity to share ideas, explore good practice, and to learn from each other’s experiences. It is also a great opportunity to network with like-minded colleagues who share your passion for learning in Computer Science and ICT fields.

The event will be hosted by Adam Speight, an experienced teacher, lecturer, and learning coach.  He is also CEO of Mr Speight Consultancy who provide educational advice and guidance to organisations to both the public and private education sectors.  Adam’s co-host for the event will be Operational Manager Stewart Powell.  Stewart will be on hand to answer any queries that you may have about the Technocamps programme.

We are really looking forward to this Friday.  We hope it will be the first of many virtual Teachmeets, designed to support the outstanding work being undertaken in our schools.
