Can you describe your experience working at Technocamps?
My experience as a summer intern at Technocamps has been so fun and inspiring. From the beginning, I felt welcomed and supported, and it’s been amazing to be a part of a team who are not only incredibly friendly and enjoyable to work with but are also passionate about making computing education more accessible and engaging for young people. Their energy and enthusiasm were contagious, and it made every day feel unique and unforgettable.
What activities or workshops have you been involved in during your time at Technocamps?
During my time at Technocamps, I’ve had the opportunity to be involved in a wide variety of workshops and projects, delivered in both English and Welsh mediums. I created two AI workshops, one designed to introduce KS2 pupils to the basics of AI in a fun and accessible way, and another aimed at educating teachers on what AI is and how they can use AI tools to support their teaching and reduce workload.
I supported and delivered multiple robotics workshops for KS2 and KS3, working with pupils in Years 3 to 9. These included the annual South-East and South-West Wales robotics competitions, where I helped support students as they built and programmed their robots. I also helped run a Micro:bit workshop for learners aged 7 to 18.
I had the opportunity to contribute to Welsh-medium computing education by coding the OhBot robot for a Welsh-language TV clip and translating foundation-year computer science lecture slides and lab materials into Welsh. Coming from a Welsh-medium academic background, it was especially rewarding to combine my language and technical skills to help support bilingual learning and make a real difference for students.
Can you share any specific highlights or memorable moments from working with Technocamps?
One of the most memorable parts of my internship was supporting the South-East and South-West Wales robotics competitions. It was such a fun experience! Seeing the pupils get excited about completing the challenges and proudly showing off their robots made me extremely happy.
What have been some of the key learnings or growth experiences for you since starting at Technocamps?
One of the biggest areas of growth for me during my time at Technocamps has been building confidence in working with young people and supporting their learning. I didn’t lead workshops, but being a part of the delivery team gave me a chance to interact with pupils by answering their questions, guiding them through challenges, and seeing their excitement when they succeeded. The experience helped me feel more comfortable communicating technical ideas.
I have also learnt how to adapt my language and explanations depending on the age group and environment. Explanations for Year 3 robotics sessions looked different from Year 9 sessions. Supporting workshops in both English and Welsh was meaningful to me, and it made me appreciate how language makes learning feel more accessible and approachable.
Is there anything else you would like to add?
I want to express how grateful I am for the opportunity to be part of Technocamps this summer. The experience has been incredibly rewarding, not just in terms of the skills I’ve developed, but also the amazing people I’ve had the chance to work with. I’d like to extend a huge thank you to the whole Technocamps team for being so welcoming, supportive, and fun to work with. It’s been a fantastic experience, and I’ve learnt so much from both the work and the people around me.
