Technocamps continues to develop its international reputation within the field of Computer Science Education as we aim to take our core values to inspire, be creative and have fun onto the global stage. In previous years, Technocamps has supported and mentored a number of Welsh teams competing against others from across the globe as part of the First©Lego League World Festival. The festival challenges young people to think like scientists and engineers while promoting values of team working, discovery and Gracious Professionalism®.
The Detroit event is a notable one for the entire Technocamps team. We are extremely proud that our Operations Manager, Stewart Powell has been invited by the organisers to join an esteemed panel of judges and will be assessing teams in the Robot Design section of the competition; a reflection of the high regard that the Technocamps programme has earned, in both national and international contexts.

In previous years, I have supported two Welsh teams to compete at the World Festival where the level of competition is fierce! I am looking forward to seeing the innovative and wide variety of mechanical and software design from teams across the World. It is a privilege to be asked to be a judge, and I am particularly excited to be flying the flag for Wales and for the Welsh technology sector.”

The festival is a celebration of space, innovation and STEM, with over 70,000 people coming from around the world to attend two weeks of intense activity. Teams are set a challenge to design a robot using LEGO® MINDSTORMS® technology with the aim of solving a real-world problem using innovative thinking, complex engineering and programming techniques. Thirteen hundred robots will go head-to-head over the course of the competition with teams required to show off their creations and demonstrate the processes that they have used to develop their strategies for solving the robot game. Each team is scored on their design, programming skills, strategy and innovation. The winners will be announced at the end of the event.
The festival links education with the Technology Industry, offering young people the opportunity to develop their computational, scientific and engineering skills. Technocamps is looking forward to forging new International links and collaborations, not just with schools and colleges from across the globe, but with International Companies that support the development of computer science and technology Worldwide.
