Technocamps is extremely proud to be able to announce and celebrate the success of our most recent graduates from the VTCT/Technoteach course. Fifteen primary and three secondary school teachers from across Wales have completed the programme this year, and we would like to offer our sincere congratulations to all of them.
The VTCT course is delivered free of charge in Wales and provides a valuable and recognized qualification for teachers. Most importantly, the course provides teachers with both the skills and confidence to be able to deliver computer science-based lessons in schools. This is particularly pertinent in light of the new Curriculum for Wales, currently under consultation and due to be implemented in 2022, where computational thinking skills are embedded into the Science and Technology Area of Learning Experience at all levels.
Our VTCT graduates are now able to go back to their schools and disseminate their knowledge and experience amongst their colleagues helping to improve the quality of computer science teaching as part of this varied new curriculum.
Stephen Blake from Penllergaer Primary School is one of this year’s graduates:
“The course provided me with the tools to deliver the curriculum confidently and has given me the opportunity to support and upskill other members of staff… a fantastic course which has helped me understand clearly all aspects of computational thinking.”Stephen Blake
For all our graduates, the course has really helped to develop their skill set and helped them to develop resources and materials that they can now use in their own classrooms. Each teacher is given support and guidance from one of our specialist delivery officers and we have delivered the course this year in both Welsh and English.
Chloe Stoneman from Ysgol Gymraeg Casnewydd described her experiences:
“The sessions really helped build my confidence and knowledge and Luke was excellent in providing support and developing my understanding.”Chloe Stoneman
Neil Arbery from Nottage Primary School was particularly pleased by the progress that he made in a very short space of time.
“My knowledge on coding prior to this course was very limited and I would have struggled to deliver effective lessons. However, since attending this course, I am much more confident and have actual resources to use in class.”Neil Arbery
Once again, we would like to offer our sincerest congratulations to all our graduates and hope to catch up with you when we visit your schools to deliver one of our brilliant workshops.
We are currently recruiting teachers for the 2019/20 programme. You can find out more about the course here.
