GiST Cymru Summer School

Technocamps was extremely proud to lead on an innovative new programme designed to encourage young women towards STEM careers. The official launch of GiST Cymru at the University of South Wales was held in July 2019. Over 130 girls from schools across South East Wales and the Valleys attended to gain insight and understanding into the opportunities open to them in the field of Science and Technology. It is widely recognised that girls are under-represented in STEM industries, and one of the aims of the European-funded Technocamps Operation is to try and redress the balance.

Last week, 27 girls participated in the GiST Cymru Summer School 2019 where they were challenged to use their creativity to the fullest. They participated in activities including coding, building tall giraffes, making slime, and even extracting DNA from a banana! All while making new friendships and filming their journey throughout the week.

Seeing them all coming in every day during the week and choosing to spend their summer holidays at our Summer School gives some insight into the quality of our workshops and the professionalism of our Delivery Officers.

All the girls successfully graduated from the Summer School and each received a Technocamps Certificate of Attendance.
