Half Term Event: Game Development 101

adminEvent

Over October Half-Term, we’re offering two introductory sessions to the world of Game Design! You can choose from the Beginners Session – designed for those who want to get into game design, or the Advanced Session – for those who want to take their games to the next level. You can even do both if you’re brave enough…

Both sessions will take place via Zoom and will require a computer or laptop. The sessions will run from 10am-4pm, with a lunch-break and a chance to work on your own games between 11.30am-3pm.

Beginners Session – Tuesday 27th October

Do you want to get into game development? Do you want to learn the secrets to making great games? This session will introduce you to the tools and techniques that will kickstart your journey into the games industry!

In this day-long session you’ll get to learn the ins and outs of game development from the ground up and come away having made your very first prototype. We’ll use MakeCode Arcade (arcade.makecode.com) as a gentle introduction to designing games. If you’ve used Scratch before, you should be right at home.

Advanced Session – Thursday 29th October

So you’ve made a game or two… Now you want add that polish that takes it from a bedroom project to potential Steam release! This session aims to show you what goes on behind the doors of a game development company and how you can make your game stand out amongst the crowd.

You’ll put all you’ve learned into practice using ThreeJS (threejs.org/editor). This 3D games engine is a great way to learn JavaScript and introduces many of the concepts and jargon you’d find in other game engines like Unity and Unreal Engine, giving a great headstart into the life of an Indie Developer.
