Game Development – Secondary Teacher CPD Series

We are hosting a series of CPD sessions for secondary school teachers focussing on the key concepts of Game Development. All sessions are being facilitated by Bridgend College in partnership with Swansea University and Technocamps and are free to participants thanks to funding support from the Welsh Government.

Roles in the Games Industry
Wednesday 21st April 2021
This session will be an introduction to the modern games industry, from independent studios to large AAA publishers. At the end of the session, you will have an idea of the wide range of roles in the gaming industry and the skills needed to fill those roles.

Teaching Game Design
Wednesday 5th May 2021
This session will introduce you to the idea of game design as a field and give you the tools you need to teach it. Starting out by picking apart what exactly a game is, we will look at how we can separate different aspects of a game and build a series of workshops around these aspects. By the end of the session, you will have an appreciation of what game design is and why it is an essential part of game development.

Introduction to Programming using Scratch
Wednesday 19th May 2021
This session will focus on the fundamental programming concepts using the friendly drag-and-drop programming environment Scratch. By the end of this session you will have seen how to implement algorithms within Scratch to build up a game, and will receive links to additional resources to develop on these further.
