Young people in Cardiff get excited about Computer Science

adminNews, News and Events

We recently partnered with the Cardiff Youth Service Digital team to provide a four-day computer science programme for people aged 11-16 in Cardiff to learn how to code and programme. The event involved writing code, and developing and implementing a software program.

Over the four days, staff from our Cardiff University hub delivered online sessions for the young people taking part.

Thanks to Cardiff Commitment, representatives from Microsoft and Admiral joined a session to discuss coding and programming in the workplace and the opportunities young people can access with the skills and knowledge they gained.

Feedback from participants:
“I enjoyed the different sites we got to code on and being able to make different codes.”
“I got to learn new things and meet new people whilst having fun.”
“Thanks for running these sessions. It’s been a great use of my boys time and my son is certain he’d like to go further with this in the future.”

As a result of this project, we are working with the Cardiff Youth Service Digital team and with a group of local young people to develop a digital space with lots of opportunities for 11-16 year olds. Watch this space!
